"Marriage is brutal; this movie is fun."

Must Watch

This movie is basically a mountain: the first half is spent doing the heavy lifting of building it up, and the second half is just everyone screaming all the way down it. I'll be honest, the beginning is a bit of a tonal struggle. There's one specific sequence that tries to be dangerous and funny at the same time, but it just misses the mark. It drags on way too long and probably should've stayed on the cutting room floor to keep the energy up.

But man, once this movie recovers from that stumble and finds its rhythm? It's a total riot. When the chaos finally takes over, it turns into a masterclass in brutal, hilarious slapstick. If you can stick through the slow burn at the start, that 0-100 sprint at the end makes the whole thing worth it.

A huge reason it works is the cast. They're all performing at a high level with comedic timing that is just airtight. Jason Segel plays his role perfectly — he's great at that depressed, defeated husband vibe where you can tell his career didn't go the way he wanted. Then you have Samara Weaving, who I honestly loved seeing in this. She's starting to get typecast in these kinds of "bloody-but-funny" roles, but she's so good at it that it doesn't matter. She brings a specific energy that really anchors the madness. Timothy Olyphant and the rest of the crew also bring their A-game, making sure the jokes land even when the movie gets violent.

The comedy really uses that brutality to its advantage. It doesn't just feel like gore for the sake of gore; it's actually part of the punchline. This is just a very fun film to watch if you want to grab some friends and have a good time with the payoff.
